Godfrey Gao was a Taiwanese-born Canadian model and actor. Gao was born in Taipei, Taiwan, to a Taiwanese father and a mother from Malaysia. He moved to Vancouver, Canada, during his childhood, and later studied at Capilano University in North Vancouver. Gao's father is Shanghainese but grew up in Taiwan while his mother is a Peranakan from George Town. Since returning to Taiwan to work as a model in 2004, Gao appeared in several TV dramas and films. He played Magnus Bane in the film adaption of "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones". He was also the first Asian male to model for the fashion brand, Louis Vuitton. He was managed by JetStar Entertainment and joined Korean actress Yoo In Na for Wedding Bible.

On November 26, 2019, while filming in Ningbo, China for a sports reality tv show 'Chase Me'. Gao collapsed and was sent to the hospital, however hours later, it was confirmed that he had passed away due to heart attack at the age of 35.
